Shorten the wick to the desired size before attaching it, as it can be difficult to make a wick that has become stiff in wax look nice. If you find that the wick gives off too much flame or the wax surface melts too quickly, choose a smaller wick size. Conversely, if you find that the flame is smouldering and there is no heat at all, it is worth trying a wider wick. Always do trial tests with different wick sizes to check that the candle burns evenly, matches the shape of your candle and the size of the container.
