If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to make your own soy wax candles, but it seemed like a very complicated process, read on and we promise it’s really simple.

Before making candles, we advise you to choose only the highest quality raw materials, which will determine not only the appearance of the candle, but also the quality of the burn and aroma.

And now to production! Just 8 simple steps and you’ll have your own handmade candle!

First of all, make sure you have all the materials you need for this creative experiment ready. You will need:

8 step sequence

Prepare the jars. If you are reusing a jar to make a candle, make sure that the jar has been washed thoroughly and that there is no wax residue.

Attach the selected wick to the wick holder. Shorten the wick to the desired size, as it can be difficult to shorten a wick that has become stiff in wax. Using the wick sticker, stick the wick with the wick holder to the bottom of the jar. Make sure that the wick is stuck firmly by slithering it upwards.

We recommend melting the wax in a steam bath rather than over direct heat to avoid overheating and discolouration. Heat a pot of water, but do not let it boil.

Weigh the amount of wax required. If your container is 200 ml, you will need ±200 g of wax. Place the wax in the wax melting pot.

Carefully place the wax melting pot filled with wax in a pot of hot water. Wait until the wax is completely melted.

When the wax reaches ±71°C, remove the wax container from the water bath and add the scented oil. We recommend starting with 3-5% oil in the wax. If you want a stronger aroma, choose 5-8% fragrance oil in the wax. When making soy wax candles, we do not recommend using more than 8% fragrance oil. Stir the scented oils for about 2 minutes until they are fully distributed.

Slowly pour the wax mixture into the jars. The wax dispensing temperature is 48-73 °C. Leave about 0,5-1 cm of the wick tip unwaxed.

You’re almost done! Let the candle cool for at least 24 hours. Put a safety label on the bottom of the candle jar if you plan to give or sell the candle.

It is recommended to burn the candle for 2-3 hours (until the entire surface of the candle is completely melted), but no more than 4 hours at a time. This will extend the life of the candle.

Finally, don’t forget to enjoy the candle-making process!
